High school students participating in the CMU program volunteer with local animal shelter to help find dogs their forever home
TRIO Upward Bound, a college preparatory program for first-generation students at Colorado Mesa University, is teaming up with Ruff Around the Edges, a Grand Junction animal shelter to host a virtual adoption fair.
On July 8, students will visit the Ruff Around the Edges shelter to create unique adoption profiles for each dog, taking photos and crafting descriptions that highlight the dogs' unique personalities. These profiles will then be shared online via the Upward Bound social media channel to help animals find their forever home.
Upward Bound works with first-generation, income-eligible students at Central and Grand Junction High School. The program helps students with their high school academics, advises them on high school and college course selection, and exposes them to college experiences through college tours and a six-week summer academy at CMU.
TRIO Upward Bound students are driven by a desire to give back to their communities. The program has provided them with numerous opportunities and support, and they are now eager to pay it forward. By helping the animals at Ruff Around the Edges find loving homes, the students are making a positive impact in their community.
